Timing Marriage by Vedic Astrology

Example 1

“She is 40 years old but still unmarried… will she be married at all? If yes, when?” was the specific question of Mr. Arun Joshi. Mr. Joshi knows Astrology and that is an advantage.

Surely yes, was my answer when her Jupiter dasha starts. Thereafter either I did not work hard on it or committed some mistake in timing the event. Let me first mention the combinations hindering or even denying marriage in this case.

Asc. – 10^o50’ ; Sun – 4^o28’ ; Moon – 4^o48’ ; Mars – 2^o43’ ; Mer. – 21^o05’ ; Jupi. – 0^o50’ ; Venus – 11^o23’ ; Sat. (R) – 16^o59’ ; Rahu – 25^o00’ (Birth Chart)

Negative Features

1. From Venus

1. Venus is afflicted.
2. The 7th house from Venus is afflicted.
3. The 7th lord from Venus is afflicted.
4. The 12th lord from Venus is afflicted.
5. The 12th house from Venus is afflicted.

2. From the Lagna

1. The 7th house is afflicted.
2.  The Lagna lord is heavily afflicted

Hopes for Marriage

1. Jupiter

1. Jupiter is in the Lagna, unafflicted and tells you a hidden story. As a benefic 7th lord in the Lagna, he arouses spiritual hopes.
2. Jupiter as the 7th lord aspects his own house.
3. Jupiter’s aspect is Ganga-water consecrating whatever it is sprinkled on.

2. Mercury

Lagna lord Mercury is afflicted heavily no doubt. But looking closely at Mercury’s degrees you can see the distance of 19 degrees from the Mars and 17 degrees from the Sun. The severity of affliction is diminished but a Lagna-lord in a hostile surrounding must delay marriage also.

3. Venus

• Ketu is 14 degrees away from Venus but Saturn in the 7th house is only 4 degrees more than Venus.

Moon

• Totally unafflicted, the Moon is receiving the aspect of Jupiter.

Navamsha

In the Navamsha, Mars the Lagna ford is debilitated and causes, in addition, triple afflictions thus:

1. Is with Venus, the 7th lord of the Navamsha.
2. Planets coming under the influence of Mars or Venus in the Navamsha.
3. Afflicts the Moon also.

But then also notice that Mars is the Lagna lord of the Navamsha and Venus, the 7th lord both aspected by two benefics, Jupiter and Mercury. So I had hopes and I had said she would get married in her forties when her Jupiter dasha starts.

Method of Timing

Mainly the most popular Vimshottari, let me point out two factors which I have found useful in timing marraige.

1. Planets or owners in the 1/7 and 4/10 axis have a major role in causing marriage of girls.
2. Planets coming under the influence of Mars or Venus in the Navamsha play a major role in causing marriages.

Here Jupiter and Mercury cover both 1/7 and 4/10 axis while Venus being in the 4th house is an active participant in marriage. The marriage took place in the pratyantar dasha of Venus, in the antar dasha of Mercury and mahadasha of Jupiter.

Now Transits

Sometime in her Rahu dasha and Jupiter antardasha her marriage was fixed with a very saintly young man. Jupiter was then in her Lagna and Saturn in her 7th house completing the double transit as established by our research. But it did not come off.

Later both Saturn and Jupiter were in her Lagna but the dasha was not favourable for her marriage.

Now when Saturn was retrograde in Libra, it covered the 1/7 axis and waited for Jupiter to reach Pisces to cover the same 1/7 axis and the dasha too was favourable, her marriage was fixed.

Faster Moving Planets

We invoke Gods to celebrate our marriage. Planets representing Gods attend marriages. The planetary positions on the day of marriage will be:

1. The Lagna lord meets the 7th lord in the 7th house. (b) The Sun and Rahu are there in the 7th house taking the total of Gods inside the marriage mandapam to four.
2. Hovering near the 7th house, outside the mandapam is Venus in the 6th house.
3. The Moon is about to enter the bride’s house, the Lagna. (e) Saturn is with the Lagna lord in Scorpio, giving company to the bride.
4. Mars from Taurus is aspecting the Lagna lord and more important Venus.

Example 2

This horoscope was shown to me with the same question. “She is 35 years old and not married yet. Will she be married at all?”

My answer was, “Yes, very soon and with a man with a lot of property”. This girl’s sister-in-law told me in her attractive cultured and polite way the following:

1. The horoscope given to me with degrees was cast by her late father who was himself an astrologer.
2. The girl had no educational qualifications having not gone beyond the fourth class.
3. She was not good looking and had even become plumpish, not attractive from any point of view.
4. They had no money to pay dowry. When it comes to the dowry the higher castes demand more. They being Brahmins had reconciled to her remaining unmarried.

I could see that it could be a no-marriage horoscope. And here was a girl with all ‘disqualifications’ in the matrimonial market. Now first look at the negative features of the horoscope delaying marriage.

2. The 7th lord from Venus is heavily afflicted.
3. Otherwise Venus is conjunct with Mercury.

2. From the Lagna

1. The 7th lord Venus is in sterile Rashi, afflicted.
2. The 7th house receives the aspect of Mars.
3. The Lagna lord is afflicted as in the earlier case, rather heavily.

3. From the Navamsha

1. Jupiter in Lagna aspects the 7th house, sprinking Ganga water.
2. Venus in his own house is afflicted by Mars.

Timing of Marriage

I have stated that in the Vimshottari dasha marriages of girls seem to take place in the dashas of planets connected with 1/7 and 4/10 axis, their lords etc.

Now here this girl was passing through the mahadasha of the Moon, vargottama and the antardasha of Mars, lord of Lagna associated with the 10th lord and aspecting the 10th house.

The Pratyantar dasha was of Mercury, associated with the 7th lord and aspected by the 10th lord.

Now Transits

1. Jupiter

1. Jupiter is with the 5th lord of the birth horoscope.
2. In Leo he is with the 7th lord.
3. From Leo he aspects the Lagna completing the 1/7 axis.

2. Saturn

1. From Virgo it aspects Mars, the Lagna lord.
2. We have shown that Mars should aspect natal Venus on the eve of marriage. In both cases that is there.
3. We have also established that Mars must do single handedly all that Saturn-Jupiter do. Here Mars is aspecting the 5th and the 7th lords besides having aspected the Lagna earlier when it was in Capricorn.

Early Marriage – (say 17 to 21 Yedrs) Conditions

1. If the lagna or the 7th house contains only beneftcs and the 7^th lord does not come under maleftc InHuence.
2. There are no malefics in the 2nd or 8th houses.
3. Benefics are not retrograde.
4. Venus is not combust.

Normal Marriage – (say 21 to 24 Yedrs) Conditions

1. The lagna or the 7th house contain mild malefics, like Sun, Rahu, Ketu.
2. The 2nd and 8th houses contain mild maleftcs, like Sun, Rahu, Ketu. Beneflcs are not retrograde.
3. Venus is not combust.
4. But the 7th lord comes under malefic influence.

Late Marriage – (say 25 to 30 years) Conditions

1. Stronger malefics Saturn and Mars inftuence 1/7 axis.
2. Stronger maleftcs Saturn and Mars Inftuence 2/8 axis.
3. The 7th lord is aspected by strong malefics.
4. The 7th lord is combust.
5. Benefics are retrograde.
6. Venus is combust.
7. Jupiter fights a lone battle to have a marriage solemnised.
