While judging a horoscope, the first thing to decide is to see the strength of the Lagna. Just as the structure made on a Shaky foundation is bound to fall down, in the same way if the Lagna is very weak the horoscope will be valueless. It is for this very reason that the Lagna must be very strong, having combined with or aspected be benefic planets and should be devoid of evil influences.

There is one principle that the Lagna should not be occupied by a dusthana lord or that the lord of the Lagna should not occupy the 8th house or afflicted by the 8th lord.

It is, therefore, laid down that the lord of the Lagna should always be stronger than the lord of 8th house. If the Lagna is weak, the native there of will be of a very weak constitution, with the result that he will have no vitality, vigour and strong will and strength to earn livelihood for himself and his family.

The next important factor is the 9 house denoting Bhagya or luck or good fortune. It is a trine house wherein resides the goddess Lakshmi. This is considered to be the most powerful trine house amongst other trine houses, namely the 5th and the Lagna.

The Lagna is both a Kendra and trine house. The Kendra houses, namely, the 1st, the 4th, the 7th and the 10th houses, are said to be the residence of Lord Vishnu. Hence, the association of the lords of these Kendra and kona houses results in a Raja Yoga, and the native enjoys the full-fledged result of the yoga, if strong and without any sort of evil afflictions.

However, it will be most significant to note that if the lords of the Bhagya and Karma houses are placed in a shashtashtaka (6th or 8th), the native will be tossed here and there by such a position, as there will be sort of tussle between the Bhagya and Karma of the native.

In the Zodiacal circle, the sign Dhanus will be on the 9th house. ruled by the best benefic planet Jupiter, Jupiter is said to be Dhanakaraka, Putrakaraka and Vidya Karaka. He is the preceptor or Guru of the Devas and is therefore called the Deva Guru.

The 9th denotes Dharma, religion and of or metaphysical knowledge. Dhanus is the sign of hope, anticipation and intuitions. The 9th house is the 5th of the 5th house (Bhavat Bhavam). If the 5th is considered to be the house of Purva Punya, the 9th house too is said to be the house of Purva Punya. The 9th house denotes Sanchit karma. There is a saying that a person having no Bhagya is just like an animal. Now let us examine some Yogas in which great significance is attached to the 9th house and Jupiter.

Mukuta Yoga – Mukuta is said to arise if Jupiter is in the 9th from the 9th lord, a benefic is in the 9th from Jupiter and Saturn is in the 10th house. A person born in this Yoga is said to be a king or head of forest tribes or hunters, powerful, evil minded and a successful sportsman.

In this Yoga, Jupiter is required to occupy the 9th house if reckoned from the lord of the 9th house. Not only that but there should be a benefic planet in the 9th from placement of Jupiter. Thus, the 9th house and Jupiter both play their significant role in this Yoga.

Nabhi Yoga – Nabhi Yoga is described by Prof. B. S. Rao in his Satya Yoga Manjari that if Jupiter is in the 9th from the Lagna and if the lord of the 9th is in the 11th from Guru combined with powerful Moon. A person born in this Yoga becomes happy, learned, wealthy, honoured by the kings, sympathetic, etc. In this Yoga also the importance is given to the 9th house and Jupiter.

Shri Yoga – Shri Yoga is formed if the lords of the 2nd and 9th join a Kendra and are combined with the lord of that house and aspected by Jupiter the results ascribed to this Yoga are that the native will be an excellent minister, praised by the rulers, conqueror of enemies and lord of many countries after his 22nd year.

Nagendra Yoga – Nagendra Yoga is said to arise when the 9th lord is in the 9th from the 7th house from the Lagna and is aspected by Jupiter. It will be important to note that the 3rd, the 7th and the 11th are termed as Kama Trikona houses. The 9th from the 7th will be the 3rd house which is a Kama Trikona house.

So, the 9th lord will be in the 3rd house, from where he will aspect his own house, the 9th house. Moreover, he will be gaining the most benign aspect of Jupiter, the most benefic planet by nature.

Kalidasa in his Uttarakalamrita Khanda IV Sloka 4 gives us three pairs of Yogas as under:-

  1. The lords of the 9th and the 10th if reckoned from the Lagna, when combined together, or occupying each other’s house or in mutual aspects, etc. bestows high position in life to the native.
  2. The lords of the 9th and the 10th when counted from the 9th house, when combined together, etc. gives medium position in life.
  3. The lords of the 9th and the 10th when counted from the 10th house, when combined together, etc. gives small position in life to the native.

Aspects of Rahu & Ketu

Moon conjunction Rahu. This aspect provides internal emotional satisfaction for him. If not, at least he will provide such satisfaction for others. Basically, this aspect represents better emotional distribution within or without the native. Support from mother or ‘mother image’ is of utmost importance for him in this life.

The idea to take something from ‘mother’ and be a ‘mother figure” to someone is highly under focus. These people go through ultra high and low emotional stages in this category. As a result, it is not to provoke them emotionally at the wrong time. Vivid imagination and stronger sensitivity towards some of the past life experiences and their illumination is noticed in this aspect. They may go through typical or unusual emotional experiences which could be part of their recent life externalization with a great similarity to reality.

Sun trine Rahu. This aspect provides good popularity, personal elevation and execution of proper ego for him. Circumstantial assistance in getting recognized in the world is noticed. Strong foundation and establishment of identity is done by the help of the father-figure in life. Success in the public life or even in politics is seen. During his recent life, he had been well recognized for his assistance to others. As a result, in this life repayment is done to him to get somewhere, no matter where he starts in life. Optimistic attitudes and open goals are quite common for him.

Dasa Periods

When it comes to Timing of Events, it is Dasa Paddhati (Vimshottari Dasa System) in Hindu Astrology which is unique but if the learned astrologers will not be able to differentiate between the ruling Dasa of Karmic planets and other planets, they are likely to err. Similarly, the Dasa periods of Rahu and Ketu are also Karmic, and are to be delineated differently.

In our illustration, the native had the balance of Jupiter Dasa of 8 years 9 months at the time of birth. A change came when he entered in Saturn Dasa, i.e. he was completely disowned by his parents and he had to work and earn his own livelihood. During these 19 years of Saturn Dasa, he had been learning and earning and the life was quite regular and smooth though progress was very slow. With the change of Mercury Dasa, a complete change came in his life. From employment, he came to the business, but this period was full of struggles, sufferings and fluctuations, though every suffering brought an additional knowledge to him.

With Ketu Dasa, his life was completely changed. As said earlier, this Dasa period was Karmic. Ketu is placed on the asterism of Venus and it became all the more important because Venus is one of the Karmic Controlling Planets. With the beginning of Ketu Dasa, he started from the scrap and reached on the dizzy heights of his life. Such time will not repeat as he will not see Rahu Dasa. He was on Top of his trade and industry in the country, but before the end of Ketu Dasa, he came to his normal pattern of Destiny i.e. there were times when he had nothing to eat and nothing to wear. He had to suffer the greatest humiliation of his life. But perhaps God has a purpose behind it. He become religious and spiritualistic from selfish and materialistic approach.

Venus Dasa, planet of Karmic Distribution Control, brought about complete revolution and rejuvenation in his life and he has attained a position which he could have never dream of in his early life. Had Venus not been the Karmic Control Planet, the results of Venus Dasa would have been totally different.

We would rather say, that he is a fortunate man, because most of his Karmic debts of past incarnation were paid during Saturn and Mercury Dasa, Ketu Dasa taught him a lesson and he should have no problem in his old age i.e. upto the age of 72 years. Sun Dasa is likely to prove death inflicting for him as Sun is placed on the asterism of Jupiter (ruler of the natal 12th house) and the Sun is in the 2nd house being the ruler of the 8th house.

Transits

We are of the opinion that Transits are more powerful and decisive than Vimshottari Dasa System, and even capable of modifying the Dasa System, though some of the learned astrologers may not be in agreement with us.

All the transiting aspects of Nodes to the planets in the chart are Karmic points of interchange. The aspects or conjunctions and positions of any Node are very significant to the planets in the natal chart.

Transit Rahu conjunct natal Ketu: First time this aspect took place in the year 1926 when it coincided with the beginning of Saturn Dasa. Second time this manifestation took place in the year 1948 with the beginning of Mercury Dasa and third time in 1966 in Ketu Dasa. All these conjunctions were bad, and brought about revolutions which became the cause of his sufferings and downfall. These three phases had their distinct characteristics in his life.

Rahu conjunction Rahu – 1939-40: He got married and got his first employment. Second time this conjunction took place in the year 1957, when he was released from all the sufferings and bondage imposed on him by Rahu conjunction Ketu in the year 1948 and a new cycle of life began.

When this conjunction took place third time in the year 1975- 76, his astrological works were recognized and was invited to visit foreign countries to speak on Hindu Astrology. His visit was a great success. If one way it was a great honour him which completely change the pattern of his life. This aspect may not operate in his life time any more.

Rahu conjunction Sun in 1951 brought about a financial relief. Rahu conjunction Venus 1952 was the most unfortunate part of his life (Venus is the Karmic Controlling Planet for the present lifetime). If Venus was not the Karmic Control Planet, this conjunction would have meant something different and proved beneficial.

Rahu conjunction Saturn in the year 1961 brought about his daughter’s marriage and a raise in his employment. His salary was just doubled over a night.

Rahu conjunction Jupiter/Neptune during this year 1962 brought another improvement in his life. He was again promoted.

Rahu conjunction Pluto (6th House) in 1964 destroyed him almost.

Rahu conjunction Mercury in 1969 brought heavy losses in business and he was almost completely ruined.

Rahu conjunction Venus in 1971, except his physical survival, nothing was left. With the entry of Rahu in his 12th house opposing Pluto, he had to rebuild his life all over again.

Whenever transit Rahu will come to conduct Ketu or other Karmic Control Planets, the outcome will be malefic. For other planets, it will depend on other factors also.
