Planets, Signs, Houses and Profession

In this blog post we will discuss different professions ruled by different signs, planets and houses. It is a combined effect of these which shows the profession a person is likely to take. For judging a native’s profession, his acumen has to be judged from the entire horoscope and not only the tenth house.

Tenth house is chiefly responsible for a native’s choice of vocation but it is very important to judge the ascendant and also different combinations present in a horoscope. It is horoscope in its entirely along with the running Dasa periods which show a native’s profession.

Element and Profession

In the previous we have already discussed that there are five elements, i.e. Earthy, Airy, Fiery, Watery and Ether. Out of these only four rule different signs, as follows:

• The fiery signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius..
• The earthy signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
• The airy signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
• The watery signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

I am describing the type of profession a native is likely to take if a certain element is dominant in his horoscope.

FIERY SIGNS: Fiery signs give vitality and energy to a native. Such natives are go getters and are never happy working under someone and like to be in a position of authority. It also shows ingenuity and originality. The natives in whose horoscope these signs dominate tend to take up profession connected with fire and metals. They make good soldiers and engineers.

They can also be excellent surgeons. As fiery signs denote spirit of adventurism, these also denote mountaineers, explorers and similar professions. Usually if in a horoscope fiery sign dominates the native will be an engineer, mechanic, solder, smith, barber, butcher, surgeon, explorers, politicians, trade-union leaders, professions which deal with engines and automobiles and such similar profession.

EARTHY SIGNS: Earthy sign denote stability. These make a native practical, methodical, preserving and prudent in his action. These people are best suited for administrative jobs. They make good bureaucrats. As businessmen they tend to make money in property, cement, agriculture, mining works, where the nature of job is directly connected with earth.

Earthy signs govern professions such as administration, civil service, economics, property, buildings, agriculture, mining, food items coming directly from earth, furniture and other wood or timber related business. If connected with Rahu, Ketu, Saturn or Mars, they make good civil Engineers.

AIRY SIGNS: Airy signs denote intellectuals. It gives intuition. These people make good astrologers, advisors, lawyers, scientists etc. These people besides being intelligent and intuitive are also practical. They are able to put their genius to an advantageous use. Airy sign dominant shows literary pursuits and originality. They are talented, refined and charitable.

Great humanitarian missions are undertaken often by natives in whose horoscopes airy sign dominates. They are often full of anger and take up a mission in life with obsession and jeal. The natives achieve their mission in life with single minded devotion and obsession and extreme hard-work.

These signs denote such professions as philanthropists, writers, authors, accountants, bookkeepers, poets, lawyers, lecturers, scientists, pilots, aviators astrologers, philosophers intellectuals, advisors of all kinds such as management consultants etc.

WATERY SIGNS: These people live more in a mental plane than physical. They are thinkers and creative. Such people make good artists and philosophers. It shows occult tendencies. Such people are very emotional and passionate.

These people have tendency to put on weight. They make many friends and are learned. Therefore, they are good in marketing and public relations job. The airy and watery signs indicate intellect. But airy signs denote intuition and practicality. Watery sign denote creative nature.

Professions indicated by watery signs are sailors, wine merchants, shipping business, merchant navy, marine engineers. Such natives deal in chemicals, petroleum and all sorts of liquids. They make good thinkers, philosophers and artists. They also engage in professions connected with dairy farming, food, underwater mining and fishing.

Note: In Chalit Chakra Sun moves to the second house, Rahu to the sixth house and Ketu to the 12th house.

Quality of Signs and Profession

The Hindu astrology signs are classified as follows, on basis of their quality:

1. Moveable (Rajasic): Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn.
2. Fixed (Tamasic): Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
3. Dual (Satwic): Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces.

Moveable Signs show movement, enthusiasm, travels and change. They are angry and bring change with their determination and forcefulness. These natives are explorers, travelers, commandoes, sportsmen, marketing professional and similar professions.

Fixed Signs show static nature and maintenance of status quo. It gives stamina and persistence. But often signifies decay, laziness and stubbornness. These natives are best suited for such professions which require authority, routine clerical jobs and where there is little change in day to day affairs. It has been seen that Moon, ascendant lord and the 10th lord afflicted in fixed signs often produces criminals.

Dual Signs are fluctuating in their decisions. They find it difficult to take quick decisions and often procrastinate. But these people make intellectuals, passionate, caring and versatile. • if all planets are in moveable sign it is caused Rajju Yoga.
• If they are in fixed sign, then it is called Musala Yoga and
• if all the planets are in dual signs then it is Nala Yoga.

Rajju Yoga gives tendency towards traveling, wandering and gives gains from foreign lands. He will be ruthless and single minded, when it will come to getting to the goal. He gets his work done from others by his wit and charming nature.

Musala Yoga gives tendency towards acquiring knowledge. He is well respected and honoured for his knowledge and often these people make money due to their ‘social contacts: That is they are close to ministers, civil servants and people in high positions and are able to exploit their closeness to the hilt for monetary gains.

Nala Yoga makes a native a skilful artist. They like to accumulate money and often gain through help from their relatives. They like to enjoy life. They often take up too many jobs at one time and may be rolling stones and have to guard against this tendency.

Planets and Profession

When a horoscope is presented to an astrologer to predict the profession one is likely to choose, he has to study carefully the following in general-

• Look for the lord of the Lagna, his position and strength. The nature of the Lagna also must be studied.
• The position of the lords of the 2nd and 5th houses.
• Lord of the 10th house, his position and strength.
• Lord of the Moon-sign is also as important and the 10th from the Moon sign.
• Planets posited in the 10th house and their nature.
• Planets aspecting the 10th house also have a say.
• Strongest planet in the horoscope.
• Strongest of the triad, i.e., Lagna, Moon-sign, and Sun-sign.
• Particular Yogas for particular profession.
• Particular Rajayoga planet, if any.
• The asterism occupied by the lords of the 10th and Lagna.
• Navamsa position of the lords of the 10th and Lagna.

The above are the important factors which influence the profession or means of livelihood of a person. I have in my possession some horoscopes of the persons employed in the banks and commercial firms dealing in monies. Some of my relations are also connected with the banks and that is how I became interested in the means of livelihood by counting others’ monies.

As a general finding, I particularly noted the role of Mercury and the lord of the 2nd house. Whenever these two planets combine or aspect each other, a banker is produced. He may start as a clerk in a bank, would reach certainly the high rank of manager, etc., provided, of course, if the lord of Lagna is exalted when a strong Rajayoga is present.

Jupiter indicates abundance and multiplied virtues. A well fortified Jupiter held eschew difficulties of life. Jupiter if located in or aspects the 10th powerfully incites the native to forbear difficulties and turmoils of life.

A strong Mars in the 10th under benefic influence gives empathy for work, makes such individual duty-bound, reliable, hardworking and surmounting in character. Such Mars gives high knowledge in engineering or technical avocation.

Saturn in the 10th, though elevates an individual in his professional status becomes the cause of downfall if afflicted, which gives rise to extreme confidence and arrogance in individual.

But benefic influence on Saturn in the 10th devoid of benefic influence bestows aggressive qualities without utilizing the tendencies and abilities that rest in an individual in a subtle stage.

As such the professional status and the nature of profession could easily be judged upto a reasonable extent from the position of Saturn.

The planets ruling the signs of Rahu and Ketu are called the Controlling planets. Since Ketu is the inlet point of Karma, the planet ruling the sign of Ketu is called the past life Karmic Control. The planet ruling the sign of Rahu controls the Karmic Distribution Control.

The controlling planets have strong implications depending upon where they fall in the chart and the aspects they make with the nodal axis. This aspect made by the controlling planet to the nodal axis is of great significance in Karmic understanding.

Since the Nodes are in exact opposition, the aspects made by the planet to both the Nodes will always be complimentary. For all practical purposes, we should take the shortest or smallest aspect between the controlling planet and the Nodal axis.

Coming back to our illustration, ruler of the sign occupied by Ketu is Mars and the ruler of the sign occupied by Rahu is Venus, i.e., Mars and Venus are the Controlling Planets in this Nativity. Mars is the planet of the past life Karmic Control and Venus is the planet of Karmic Distribution Control.

First we are to consider the position of his Mars. Mars is in Libra in 10th house. Combine the characteristics of all the three elements, i.e. Mars, Libra and the 10th house and we will get the clear picture.

The characteristics of Mars – Fire, quarrels, energy, initiative, effort, pain etc., i.e. in his past incarnation, he was quarrelsome, fiery, and full of energy. As he could not balance himself in past incarnation (Libra sign), he is to suffer in this incarnation in his married life (Libra-sign of marriage) and his vocation (10th house). When he plans to go after resources and money matters, circumstances force him to become anti-materialistic.
