The Eleventh House

The eleventh house refers to gains, elder brother, friends, acquisitions, freedom from misery, and happy tidings. An affliction to the 11th house may result in the loss of brother, friends, loss of wealth, misery or unhappy news.

The exact nature of the result can be gleaned only after an assessment of the whole chart and the afflicting planets. To some extent the eleventh also concerns marriage.

Results of Lord of Eleventh House in Different Houses

1. First House :—The native will be born in a rich family. He will earn much wealth. According as the 11th lord in Lagna is strong, middling or weak, the native will be born in a very rich, fairly rich or well-to-do family. He will lose an elder brother early in life.

2. Second House:—The native will live with his elder brothers. Benefics there give harmonious relations. Malefics cause domestic bickerings but common residence. The native will earn through commercial concerns and banking business. Business with friends will bring good profits but if malefics join, the native may suffer heavy losses on account of friends.

3. Third House :—The person will be a concert-singer or musician and will earn thereby. Gain through brothers is also indicated. He will have many friends and helpful neighbours. Afflictions give contrary results.

4. Fourth House :—One acquires profits through landed estates, rentals and products of the earth. His mother will be a cultured and distinguished lady. He will be renowned for his learning and scholarship of various subjects. He will live in comfort and enjoy all joys in life. He will have a devoted and charming wife.

5. Fifth House :—The native will have many children who will come up well in life. He will indulge in speculation and gain much money. If the 11th lord is afflicted, he will be a gambler and indulge in foolish ventures. If 11th lord is beneficially disposed, the native will be pious and observe many resolves and vows which will enhance his prosperity.

6. Sixth House :—The person gains money through maternal relatives, litigation and running nursing-homes. If the 11th lord is afflicted in the 6th, the native thrives on setting person against person, involve himself in other peoples’ quarrels and anti-social activity. If malefics afflict the 11th lord, the native may lose through similar sources.

7. Seventh House :—The person marries more than once. He prospers in foreign countries. If there are afflictions to the 11th lord, the native carries on liaisons with women of ill-repute. He will indulge in trading in flesh and similar immoral activities. If the 11th lord is fortified, the native marries only once but a rich and influential woman.

8. Eighth House :—The native though rich at birth suffers many calamities and loses much of his money. He will suffer from the depracies of thieves, cheats and swindlers. If the 11th lord occupies a malefic constellation, the native will be forced to eke out of his living by begging.

9. Ninth House : —He inherits a large paternal fortune and will be very lucky in life. He will possess many houses, conveyances and every other kind of luxury. He will be religious-minded and disseminate religious literature. He will be charitable and set up charitable institutions.

10. Tenth House :—The native prospers very well in his business and makes good profits. His elder brother will also help him in his business. He will earn some prize-money for original contributions to the subject of his study or profession. Depending upon the benefic or malefic nature of the planet he will earn through fair or foul means.

11. Eleventh House :—The native will have many friends and elder brothers who may help him throughout life. He will have a happy life with the blessings of wife, home, children and comforts.

12. Twelfth House :— He will suffer losses in business. His elder brother will be ailing and much expenditure will be incurred on account of his illness. The native may also lose an elder brother by death. He will have to pay fines and penalties frequently and will be burdened with many domestic responsibilities.

These results are very general and must not be applied directly without weighing other factors.

According to Satyacharya if the 11th lord is placed in an evil constellation such as the 3rd, 5th or 7th from that occupied by the moon, the native suffers penury and misery.

If the 11th house is flanked on both sides by benefics or otherwise favourably disposed, one will have a powerful elder brother. The native will earn fabulous wealth through his mother.

Benefics in the 11th house augment the significations of the Bhava while maiefics diminish them both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Important Combinations

If a benefic planet occupies the 11th Bhava, the native acquires wealth through honest and noble means. If maiefics be in the 11th Bhava, the native resorts to unfair and unscrupulous methods of earning, if both benefics and maiefics are there, sometimes unjust means and sometimes just methods will be resorted to. Fortified planets in the 11th house confer fortunate conveyances, bungalows, and all comforts. He will have a noble and beautiful wife and will be fond of good clothes, food and enjoyments. If the 11th house be occupied by a weak planet-eclipsed, depressed or defeated in planetary war, or occupying inimical vargas – even if one is born in an affluent family will lose everything and he will have to wander about without self-respect. The source of gains is indicated by the nature of planet in the 11th house.

If the Sun is in the 11th house, the native gets a fortune as an inheritance ; if the Moon—earns through mother, sea-products, pearls, milk, farms, fruit orchards and breweries ; if Mars—income is augmented through factories, litigation, lands and rentals and through self-exertion ; if Mercury—earns through teaching, writing, friends or uncles ; if Jupiter-gains through knowledge—scientific, religious, literary— and through well-placed sons ; if Venus-earnings increase through dance, drama, cinema, fine arts, music and women ; and if Saturn—wealth through industries, labour and agriculture.

If the Lagna, 2nd and 11th lords are friendly, the earnings are used for honourable ends such as legitimate expenses and charity. If the 2nd and 11th lords are afflicted and inimical to the Lagna lord, money is squandered on wine and women. The 11th lord well placed in a kendra or trikona from the Ascendant or malefics strong in the 11th make the native immensely wealthy.

When Mars occupies the 11th house and Lagna is a movable sign aspected by the 6th lord, one suffers physical ailments and fever due to spells and charms set into operation by black-magic and similar means.

If malefics aspect the 11th, 5th, 9th and the 3rd houses without any benefic aspect, the native suffers from ear-troubles and deafness. If the afflictions are heavy and the 3rd and 11th houses are hemmed in between malefics, he may become stone-deaf. If benefic aspects feebly, only slight deafness is indicated. Both benefic and malefic aspects on the 11th and 3rd give irritating ear-ailments but not deafness. If the Lagna lord is in a quadrant, the 10th lord is in the 4th and the 9th lord is in the 11th, one enjoys Rajayoga and becomes long-lived and even a ruler.

If the Moon and Saturn join the 11th house, one can become a ruler even if born in humble circumstances. Similar results happen if the 2nd, 9th or 11th lord occupies a kendra from the Moon and Jupiter owns 11th.

Lord of the Navamsa occupied by the Lagna lord in a kendra or trikona from the Lagna or in exaltation, or the 11th house in strength makes the native happy after his 30th year. Lords of Lagna, the 2nd and the 11th in their own houses confer much wealth.

If the 2nd and 11th lords being friendly planets occupy the Ascendant or if they occupy the 11th house in strength (such as one of them being in own sign, or friendly sign or exaltation) or if the lords of Lagna, the 2nd and the 11th combine preferably in a trine or quadrant, the native gets fabulous wealth.

If the 2nd and the 11th lords exchange houses or if the Lagna lord occupies the 2nd house and the 2nd lord occupies the 11 th house, or if the 11 th lord is in the Lagna, the native acquires much property. If the 1st, 2nd, 9th and 11th attain their exalted Navamsa or Vaiseshikamsa (occupying own moolatrikona or exaltation or same varga three or more times, one becomes a millionaire.

1. The Sun :—The person lives for a long time and becomes wealthy. He will have wife, children and many servants. He gets royal and governmental favours, and achieves success without much effort. He will be sagacious and principled.

2. The Moon :—One will be noble, generous and blessed with riches, wife and children. Introspective by nature and quiet-going, he will become famous making good profits in business. He will acquire vast lands and be helped in his endeavours by the fair sex.

3. Mars :- The native will be an eloquent and forceful speaker, clever and rich but lustful, will acquire landed Properties and wield considerable influence in top circles.

4. Mercury:—One becomes learned in many sciences. He will possess a keen and sharp intellect, will be wealthy, truthful and happy, will have many faithful servants and will prosper in engineering ventures.

5. Jupiter:—The native will be long-lived. He will have a limited number of issues, will be bold and wealthy with a piercing intellect and will become renowned. He will be fond of music, will accumulate riches and will have many friends.

6. Venus :— He will be of a wandering nature, will make immense profits possessing all kinds of comforts and luxuries. He will have a weakness for women and long for their company. He will be popular having many friends.

7. Saturn :—The native earns through employing many men and women. He will have few friends, will be fond of enjoyment and will earn through Government sources. He will have a long and healthy life, and will be involved in politics commanding great respect.

8. Rahu :- The native distinguishes himself in the army or navy, will become famous, wealthy and learned ; will have few children, will suffer from ear afflictions and will earn much wealth in foreign countries.

9. Ketu :—The native will have the habit of hoarding. He may get monetary wind-fall through speculation such as lottery, horse-racing and the stock exchange. Noble and possessed of many good qualities of head and heart, he will succeed in all his ventures, and will participate in charitable and similar works of beneficence.

Brothers

Although there is no karaka as such for elder brothers Mars who is the karaka for ‘brothers’ according to Vaidyanatha Dikshitar and other classical writers can also be considered for the 11th house. Benefic aspects and associations on the 11th house give elder brothers and ensure their happiness and long life.

Malefic aspects and associations on the 11th house and 11th lord deny elder brothers or give them short lives or other-wise mar their prosperity. When the 11th lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house and if Mars is afflicted, the native may not have any elder brother or may lose him by death.

Chart No. 1. The Eleventh House : In this chart Cancer, a fruitful sign, is the 11th house neither aspected nor occupied by any planet.

The Eleventh Lord : The Moon is debilitated in the 3rd house with 3rd and 8th lord Mars and Rahu.

In Navamsa, the Moon occupies the 12th from Navamsa Lagna aspected by 3rd Mars. The Moon is badly afflicted.

Karaka: Mars is in his own house with 11th lord the Moon and Rahu.

Considered from the Moon: The 11 th house is Virgo and the 11th lord Mercury is in the 12th therefrom with the 12th lord the Sun. Saturn, a malefic, aspects the 11 th house.

Conclusion: The native has no surviving elder brother. The association of karaka Mars with the 11th lord Moon gave one elder brother. The afflictions to the 11th house and 11th lord are quite severe both from Lagna and the Moon without any benefic aspects. The aspect of Jupiter on the 11th lord from the Moon did not deprive the native totally of an elder brother but the afflictions did not let him live long.

But he died in the native’s Venus Dasa, Saturn Bhukti. Venus, the Dasa lord, is in the 12th from the 11th house and is the 7th and 12th lord from the 11th lord Moon. The Bhukti lord is the 7th lord from the 11th house and a natural maraka.

Gains

The 11th house rules gains. These may be financial gains mostly but they also include gains by way of taking over management of property, acquisition of a post of honour, trusteeship, respect of distinction and inheritance of properties. Jupiter, Dhanakaraka, can also be taken as the karaka for labha or gains.

The Dasa of a weak or depressed planet causes loss of ‘labha’ or gains. The 11th house necessarily comprises the 2nd also so that timing of results due to benefic dispositions or afflictions to the 11th house will have to be made taking into account the 2nd house factors as well.

Thus a person acquires gains in the periods (major period or sub-period) of the planet or planets in the 11th house, the 11th lord or of the planet or planets-aspecting the 11th house or 11th lord- The same result may also be expected in the major period or sub period of the planet occupying the 2nd house, the planet aspecting it or of the planet owning it.

Conversely, a person suffers loss of the 11th Bhava significations during the periods of the planets cited above and which are afflicted by malefic planets, or are combust or depressed, eclipsed or with inimical planets. Gains may also be predicted in the following Dasas (major periods) and Bhuktis (minor periods) :— (a) Lords of the 2nd and 5th houses or the 2nd and 11th houses if they have mutually exchanged places ; (b) lords of the 5th and 9th when they are in the 5th and 9th respectively.

If the 11th lord is associated with the 12th lord, loss can be expected during their mutual periods. If the Lagna lord, 4th and 9th lords are in the 8th house, financial stress is possible during the major and minor periods of these planets. If the 5th lord is in the 8th house or the 8th lord occupies the 5th house, then also losses can occur.

Chart No. 2 – The Eleventh House : In this chart Pisces is the 11th house aspected by 9th and 10th lord Saturn and 2nd and 5th lord exalted Mercury and occupied by Ketu. It is strongly disposed.

The Eleventh Lord : Jupiter lord of the 11th is in the 6th from Lagna in an inimical sign with debilitated Sun. The Sun’s debility is cancelled by Venus occupying a kendra from Lagna, apparently the 11th lord is not very strongly placed. But his occupation of a constellation ruled by Rahu who, in turn, is strongly placed in the 5th house strengthens him. In Navamsa, Jupiter is well placed in his own sign.

Karaka : Jupiter occupies an inimical sign in the 6th house with debilitated Sun and the same discussion as above applies since the karaka is also the 11th lord in this case.

Considered from the Moon : The 11 th house is Scorpio occupied by an excellent benefic and yogakaraka Venus. The 11th house is aspected by Saturn lord of the Moon-sign and the 2nd lord therefrom. Saturn is in conjunction with exalted 9th lord Mercury. The 11th lord Mars is exalted in the Moon-sign with the 7th lord Moon generating a Sasi-Mangala Yoga.

Conclusion : Note the powerful Dhana Yoga in this chart generated by exalted 2nd and 5th lord Mercury combined with Yogakaraka Saturn in a trine in the 5th house and with Rahu. The chart is strongly placed for financial gains. The 11th house being aspected by Mercury and Rahu and Saturn has given the native engineering (Mercury and Rahu) industries (Saturn) worth several crores.
